TYPE OF STUDIES AND LEARNING OUTCOME<\/strong><\/p>

Type of studies:<\/strong>\u00a0First-cycle academic studies<\/p>

Learning outcomes:<\/strong>\u00a0Upon completion of their studies, students will master a full range of terms and notions from sociology and complementary disciplines, they will be familiar with key features of mainstream theories of society, as well as with processes and participants as regards the functioning of society and social changes, they will be able to describe major phenomena and issues, to classify them, and to relate them to similar ones, they will master basic methods and procedures of data collection, organisation, and analysis, and they will be able to expand the realm of their knowledge on their own and transfer it to others.<\/p>

The Study Programme of Sociology splits up in the senior year into two course routes:\u00a0General Course Route<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Teachers\u2019 Course Route<\/strong><\/p>

a) General Course Route<\/strong><\/p>

The General Course Route of Sociology trains students for a variety of positions asking for understanding of social processes and for familiarity with principles of scholarly approach to social issues. In this respect, the graduates from this course route will be able to work in social work centres, non-governmental organisations, private agencies, public administration, publishing companies, cultural institutions, the media, business entities etc.<\/p>

b) Teachers\u2019 Course Route<\/strong><\/p>

The Teachers\u2019 Course Route provides graduates with competences necessary for working in educational institutions, primarily secondary schools. This training includes gaining knowledge and expertise from the fields of pedagogy, psychology, and methodology of teaching sociology.<\/p>

ACADEMIC TITLES<\/strong><\/p>

In accordance with the Rulebook on Professional, Academic, and Scientific Titles (Official Gazette of the Republic of Srpska, issues of 117\/14 and 83\/15), the Study Programme of Sociology offers the following profiles:<\/p>

BA in Sociology \u2013 240 ECTS \u2013 upon completion of General Course Route Studies<\/strong>
BA in Sociology \u2013 240 ECTS \u2013 upon completion of Teachers’ Course Route<\/strong><\/p>

The Study Programme of Sociology is one of four Study Programmes at the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Banja Luka. The remaining three are: Political Science, Social Work, and Journalism and Communication Studies.<\/p>

With regard to the studies of sociology at the University of Banja Luka, they did not start at the Faculty of Political Science but at the Department of Philosophy and Sociology of the Faculty of Philosophy, which was established in 1994 and whose curriculum\u00a0 was designed in the fashion similar to the curricula of its counterparts in the region of former Yugoslavia, the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade (Republic of Serbia) and the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia) in particular<\/p>

In this respect, sociology was studied as double major (Sociology\/Philosophy) until 2007, with the then curriculum featuring basic courses in both the fields of philosophy and sociology.<\/p>

In 2000, the Department of Philosophy and Sociology initiated two course routes at Master Studies : Contemporary Sociology and Contemporary Philosophy, whereas the Institute for Philosophy and Social Research was established in 2004..<\/p>

After adopting the principles of the Bologna Declaration, \u00a0the Study Programme of Sociology featured a three-year study programme, which was later transformed into four-year undergraduate studies. The curriculum is organised in accordance with the 4+1+3 model (undergraduate, master, and PhD studies.<\/p>

In 2017, a three-year programme of integrated PhD studies was initiated at the Faculty of Political Sciences: PhD in Social Studies for the research fields of Sociology, Political Science, Social Work and Social Policy,\u00a0 and Media Studies. After defending their PhD dissertation in the field of Sociology, candidates obtain the title of PhD in Sociology.<\/p>

The Study Programme of Sociology provides its students with all the necessary theoretical knowledge about the complexity of societies and social processes and relations,\u00a0 as well as with the tools necessary to conduct their own research.<\/p>

In this respect, the graduates from this course route will be able to work in social work centres, non-governmental organisations, private agencies, public administration, publishing companies, cultural institutions, the media, business entities etc. b) Teachers\u2019 Course Route The Teachers\u2019 Course Route provides graduates with competences necessary for working in educational institutions, primarily secondary schools. This training includes gaining knowledge and expertise from the fields of pedagogy, psychology, and methodology of teaching sociology. ACADEMIC TITLES In accordance with the Rulebook on Professional, Academic, and Scientific Titles (Official Gazette of the Republic of Srpska, issues of 117\/14 and 83\/15), the Study Programme of Sociology offers the following profiles: BA in Sociology \u2013 240 ECTS \u2013 upon completion of General Course Route StudiesBA in Sociology \u2013 240 ECTS \u2013 upon completion of Teachers’ Course Route The Study Programme of Sociology is one of four Study Programmes at the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Banja Luka. The remaining three are: Political Science, Social Work, and Journalism and Communication Studies. With regard to the studies of sociology at the University of Banja Luka, they did not start at the Faculty of Political Science but at the Department of Philosophy and Sociology of the Faculty of Philosophy, which was established in 1994 and whose curriculum\u00a0 was designed in the fashion similar to the curricula of its counterparts in the region of former Yugoslavia, the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade (Republic of Serbia) and the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia) in particular In this respect, sociology was studied as double major (Sociology\/Philosophy) until 2007, with the then curriculum featuring basic courses in both the fields of philosophy and sociology. In 2000, the Department of Philosophy and Sociology initiated two course routes at Master Studies : Contemporary Sociology and Contemporary Philosophy, whereas the Institute for Philosophy and Social Research was established in 2004.. After adopting the principles of the Bologna Declaration, \u00a0the Study Programme of Sociology featured a three-year study programme, which was later transformed into four-year undergraduate studies. The curriculum is organised in accordance with the 4+1+3 model (undergraduate, master, and PhD studies. In 2017, a three-year programme of integrated PhD studies was initiated at the Faculty of Political Sciences: PhD in Social Studies for the research fields of Sociology, Political Science, Social Work and Social Policy,\u00a0 and Media Studies. After defending their PhD dissertation in the field of Sociology, candidates obtain the title of PhD in Sociology.
